Sad Wanderer

Sad Wanderer

Oh sad wanderer
Where shall ye find
Where ye do belong?

Ye carry your burdens
Like a sack on your back
And ye complain of the rain
And the love that ye lack.

Never realizing
Your heartaches and weeping
Are there for a reason
And are yours for the keeping.

You could have had
Anything ye desired
All through the world,
Ye was so much admired.

Oh sad wanderer
Where shall ye find
Where ye do belong?

Ye sang of your aloneness

Wrote poems in your mind

And left all your ladies to cry

In the dust far behind.

Never feeling and knowing
Their love was for the taking
From all those sweet hearts
You were evermore breaking.

Homeless and empty
Like a ghost ye still prowl
Eyes hidden and angry
And your mouth in a scowl.

Oh sad wanderer
Where shall ye find
Where ye do belong?

Through many a storm
Your path has crossed
As ye were endlessly seeking
For what ye never had lost.

All the gifts you were given
Encased in your sorrow
Were yours for the loving
A promise of tomorrow.

Everything lies so deeply buried
In your soul that’s twisting and turning
Turn your eyes inward
Inside are the lessons for learning.

Oh sad wanderer
Where shall ye find
Where ye do belong?
